Halifax Regional Fire and Rescue responded to a working structure fire at an empty storefront on Pleasant Street Saturday night.
According to the Halifax Professional Firefighters Union, crews arrived on scene shortly after 11:30 p.m. and found heavy fire and smoke. A second alarm was called to assist with firefighting efforts.
Firefighters adopted a defensive strategy, battling the fire from outside the building to prevent it from spreading to an attached structure.
About 30 firefighters were involved in the response. Crews were able to contain the blaze to the affected unit and bring the fire under control.
During the incident, Halifax Regional Police closed Pleasant Street between Prince Arthur Street and Arthur Street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
There is no word on a cause and no injuries were reported.
