Red Racer Books and author Andy Amendola are kicking off Daytona 500 week by dropping a new book for young race fans. “ABC’s of NASCAR Racing: My First Guide to NASCAR Racing” is their new go-to destination for NASCAR education.
Releasing on Feb. 9, “ABC’s of NASCAR Racing” covers all of the basics of stock car racing over 32 pages. Amendola and illustrator Wei Ren use each letter of the alphabet to explain specific elements of big time auto racing. This includes “J is for Jackman” and “E is for Engineers.”
This is not a basic explanation of the sport, however. Each entry in the book highlights some more in-depth details that diehard fans would know. Take the entry “A is for Aerodynamics,” for example.
“Aerodynamics is how air moves around things — especially race cars,” Amendola writes. “NASCAR cars use special parts like splitters, spoilers, and shark fins to help them go faster and stay steady at high speeds. It’s a big part of what makes racing so exciting.”

The hardcover book also covers racing grooves, the different types of tracks, the exact blend of Sunoco fuel used, and the process of drafting.
This particular entry is important as drivers and teams prepare for the Duel races and Sunday’s season-opening Daytona 500 (Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET on Fox). These competitors will rely on the draft while trying to win the biggest race in the sport.
If they lose the draft, they will travel around the track more slowly than the rest. They will likely fall multiple laps behind the leaders.
“NASCAR racing is thrilling—but it can be hard to know where to start,” said Amendola, founder of Red Racer Books and author of the title.
“Our A-to-Z format makes the sport approachable for kids and gives parents a joyful way to share NASCAR at home, in the classroom, and in their community. It opens the door to the entertainment, the science and technology, and the rituals that make race day special.”
“ABC’s of NASCAR Racing: My First Guide to NASCAR Racing” will be available on multiple sites starting on Feb. 9. This includes Amazon and Red Racer Books. The listed price is $19.99.
