A worker is dead and another is seriously injured after a pipe rolled off a truck at an oilsands site in northern Alberta.
The incident happened Thursday at a Cenovus site near Christina Lake, roughly 150 kilometres south of Fort McMurray, triggering a formal investigation by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
According to OHS, the two workers were unloading a truck when a pipe shifted and struck them.
One died at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries.
The Calgary-based company says a third-party contractor employed both workers. Work at the site was initially halted following the incident, but has since resumed.
Provincial officials say the investigation is ongoing and no additional details will be released until it is complete.
