KENORA — A 60-year-old man sustained serious injuries after hitting an ice ridge on the Lake of the Woods while operating a motorized snow vehicle on Friday.
The OPP responded to the collision in the Clearwater Bay area at roughly 6:30 p.m., according to a media release issued by the OPP on Sunday.
The Kenora Northwest Emergency Medical Services responded alongside the OPP to provide medical attention.
The OPP said the sustained injuries resulted in the use of an air ambulance to transport the man to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Man., where he was treated for his injuries.
The driver is now in stable condition after medical care, according to the police.
The OPP reminded the public to drive according to conditions and operator skill levels, as well as to be cognizant of ever-changing conditions on the ice roads, which can change rapidly during the day.
The police advised people to always let someone know where they plan to travel and when they expect to return.
In the event of a disaster, these two measures will greatly increase first responders’ ability to arrive and facilitate care, the OPP added.
