Some Nioh 3 players are finding the early game too easy compared to previous games, but I can promise you that will change incredibly fast.
Just like its muse, Dark Souls, the Nioh series has always been known for how challenging it is. While I’d argue it’s a little friendlier than most FromSoft games, there’s no denying that you can’t waltz in and fight Yokai without learning the mechanics. That being said, Nioh 3 is supposed to be a more welcoming game that anyone can jump into.
Nioh 3’s big shift to an open zone approach that lets the player choose their own path, freely grind out levels, and approach challenges as they see fit (which includes a powerful and speedy Ninja form to boot) does make it seem like a much easier time overall. That’s exactly what some players are finding in the early game, which is causing a fair few debates.

Just Wait Until That One Boss That Takes You 20 Tries
Over on the Nioh subreddit, one of the most active threads comes from Redditor loosewobble, who reacted to all of the posts claiming that Nioh 3 is too easy. They called the arguments “annoying” and pointed out that, as an RPG, the difficulty is very malleable and up to what the player equips and uses. Basically, you control the buttons that you press.

Nioh 3 Is A Brutal New Peak For The Series
Nioh 3’s open levels, new Ninja form, and even tighter combat cement it as the best game in the series.
While a good deal of the replies are in agreement and point out how much harder things get later on into the Warring States and the later game areas, not everyone agrees with the sentiment. Several fans pointed out that Nioh is known for its difficulty and that the difficulty means it’s hard to engage with the combat mechanics without killing them too fast.
Others say that even with some difficulty spikes, this is the easiest Nioh of the trilogy, which isn’t what many wanted to see from the series. As someone who has poured nearly 100 hours into the game, though, I can promise anyone who’s worried about the difficulty to wait and see how tough things get later on in the game.
I can see why some players are finding the early game too easy since you can overlevel quite fast and you’re mostly dealing with normal enemies instead of bosses, but you’ll be praying for those times when you get properly stuck. Nioh 3 may be a bit easier than the first and second game overall, but it still really ramps things up and gives those wanting a challenge plenty of options to make things tougher.
