In what’s been a trend across southern Alberta this summer, a thunderstorm watch has been issued for Calgary on Heritage Day, Monday.

Environment Canada says the thunderstorms have developed over the Foothills and Cypress Hills and will move east and northeast. The watch says “a few of the thunderstorms could become severe.”

The watch has been issued because conditions are strong for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of “producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain.”

“When thunder roars, go indoors,” Environment Canada said in a notice. “Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.”

There’s a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms Monday evening as well, along with a 30 per cent chance on Tuesday.

Fog patches are expected to develop overnight.
