A teenage driver was charged after allegedly speeding well beyond the limit on Highway 11 in Severn Township Sunday morning.

According to Orillia OPP, the driver’s coffee run ‘turned costly,’ as they were clocked at 144 kilometres per hour in the posted 90 zone while travelling northbound just after 8 o’clock.

The patrolling officer stopped the 17-year-old and charged them with stunt driving and speeding 50 kilometres an hour over the posted speed limit.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and they are scheduled for a future court date. Their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

“The OPP remind all motorists that excessive speed and aggressive driving behaviour pose serious risks to everyone on the road,” said an OPP media officer in a news release.

Drivers accused of stunt driving in Ontario could also face fines ranging between $2,000 and $10,000 and possible jail time.
