A Canadian music store with an over 60-year history is closing its Ontario shops.

Steve’s Music Store is closing most locations, including its two stores in Ontario, multiple news outlets are reporting.

The store posted a liquidation sale, with up to 50 per cent off, and stating “Everything Must Go” in all five of its locations, according to a post on Instagram.

Ottawa store manager, Dan Sauvé, told the CBC that all stores will close except for the store on rue Sainte-Catherine in Montreal. The business is expected to shift to mainly online sales.

The store’s owner, Mike Kirman, son of founder Steve Kirman’s son, told CTV News that all stores are going through restructuring and they will be “closing a couple of stores” to “stay strong in a competitive market.”

A landmark in Toronto’s Queen and Spadina neighbourhood, the shop sells musical instruments, accessories and studio equipment.

The closures will likely include that Toronto location at 415 Queen St. W., which opened in October 1977, and the Ottawa store, previously in the ByWard Market, at 280 Catherine St.

Steve Kirman founded the first store in Montreal in 1965. It was known for its hands-on environment where musicians could test instruments.

Kirman died at the age of 65 in Montreal in 2012.
