Man Charged With Murder and Released on Conditions Back in Custody

Matthew Kavanagh (VOCM News)

One of three people charged in connection with the murder of a Spaniard’s Bay man in 2024 has been arrested and charged for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

RNC say 42-year-old Matthew Kavanagh was released on bail on strict conditions including a curfew.

He was also on a probation order on a charge of damage to property in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s in 2022.

Kavanagh was located by RNC in Pouch Cove on Sunday morning and taken into custody on charges of failing to comply with a condition of a release order and failing to comply with a probation order.

He’s scheduled to appear in court today.

Kavanagh, 34-year-old Terry Cole and 28-year-old Stephanie Noftall are all charged with first-degree murder in the death of Michael Fillier whose body was found in a burned-out pickup in the fall of 2024.
