Errol Spence Jr. will return to the ring against Tim Tszyu for the first time in nearly three years.
The man known as “The Truth” isn’t done with boxing just yet.
Errol Spence Jr. (28-1) will make his long-awaited return to the ring this summer, sources told Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine. Spence will face Tim Tszyu (26-3) at 154 pounds in a massive fight.
Spence, 35, hasn’t fought since being TKO’d by Terence “Bud” Crawford (42-0) in Las Vegas on July 29, 2023. He has hinted at his return multiple times on social media, and it appears he will lace up the gloves one more time.
He will train in Philadelphia with well-known trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards. Spence and long-time trainer Derrick James split in 2024 following a legal dispute.
Tszyu was at one point considered the “boogeyman” of the super welterweight division, winning the WBO title with a unanimous decision win over Brian Mendoza (23-4).
But following three losses in his last five fights, including two KO losses, Tszyu has gone back to the drawing board to revive his career.
Spence has fought the majority of his career in Texas. From DeSoto, Texas, three of his last five fights before his hiatus were at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. The fight could also take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight will likely air on PBC on Amazon Prime Video PPV. Regardless of where and when it takes place, Spence is considered one of the biggest names in boxing.
Will Eroll Spence Jr. or Tim Tszyu be Favored to win the Fight?
While official odds haven’t been released yet, Tim Tszyu will likely be favored in the fight. Despite his recent struggles, he’s been the more active fighter and according to Coppinger, will take a tune-up fight before facing Spence.
The big question in the fight is — “How will Eroll Spence Jr. look coming off a three-year break?” Ring rust is considered to be a massive determinant in how fighters perform.
If Spence loses, especially in a devastating fashion, this will more than likely be the last fight of his career.
For Tszyu, this fight represents his path to getting back to the top of boxing. A win over one of the most well-known boxers in the sport would put him in a position to challenge for a title again.
