Belleville firefighters responded to the 100 block of South John St. late Monday morning after reports of a house fire.
Firefighters got the call at close to 11:20, and responded quickly to the scene with police and paramedics.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to an area inside the kitchen. The home was occupied at the time, but all the occupants were able to evacuate safely. One woman was treated by paramedics for a minor injury she sustained while leaving the building.
Damage to the home is estimated at $80,000.
In a press release after the incident, the fire department reminded local residents who are using heating appliances such as space heaters to make sure they follow the manufacturers instructions, keep them clear of combustible material, and never leave them unattended.
