Toronto police say a 25-year-old driver is facing charges after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Etobicoke earlier this month.

It happened at around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Dundas Street West and Acorn Avenue, near Kipling Avenue, on Feb. 3.

Police said a 28-year-old man was crossing Dundas Street when he was struck by a grey Toyota Rav 4 that was heading east.

“The Rav 4 proceeded through the intersection and struck the pedestrian,” police said in a news release issued Monday.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital but later died.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

According to investigators, 25-year-old Joseph Daniel Alvarado Portillo, of Mississauga, has now been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance.

“The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services. Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators,” the news release read.
