Heraskevych says he’ll wear helmet on race day

Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych, speaking to reporters in Italy, confirmed he will wear his banned helmet on race day. His coach Mykhailo Geraskevych suggested to CBC earlier that it would be the case, saying, with a wink, “We’ll see.”

Heraskevych has been wearing a helmet with the photos of athletes, including children, who were killed during Russia’s invasion.

Visible on the helmet are teenage weightlifter Alina Perehudova, boxer Pavlo Ishchenko, hockey player Oleksiy Loginov, actor and athlete Ivan Kononenko, diving athlete and coach Mykyta Kozubenko, shooter Oleksiy Habarov and dancer Daria Kurdel.

“Some of them were my friends,” the 26-year-old racer, who is Ukraine’s flag bearer, told Reuters after his training session on Monday.
