The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t drafted a wide receiver in the first round since 2021. When they did, the team ended up with its star wideout, DeVonta Smith, out of Alabama.
That pick was a solid make-it-right selection after the Eagles had a bad miss on TCU’s Jalen Reagor one year prior. After going defense five times in a row over the past four drafts, is it time for the Eagles to dip back into the wideout bag? The Big Lead’s post-Super Bowl mock draft predicts the Eagles could go for a big pass-catching target of Washington by selecting Denzel Boston.
“A big, reliable target from outside or in the slot, Boston is a sure-handed weapon who can add another power element to the Eagles’ receiving corps,” Jeff Risdon writes.
According to NFL.com’s draft expert, Lance Zierlein, Boston can be compared to Los Angeles Rams wideout, Puka Nacua. Admittedly, the analysis feels “strong” due to his speed concerns, but his burst off the line, route-running, and ability to win contested catches should make up for all of that over time.

Despite the back-and-forth narrative with the often-disgruntled AJ Brown, the Eagles have to start thinking about the future. Even if Brown settles his frustrations and is back for another season in Philadelphia, there’s no harm in bringing in a player to learn behind him and DeVonta Smith.
Through his first two seasons at Washington, Boston appeared in 16 games, but collected just seven targets. The 2024 NCAA season was his breakout year. In 13 games, Boston caught 63 passes for 834 yards and nine touchdowns.
Entering the NFL Draft, he’s coming off a season where he had 12 appearances, catching 62 passes for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Huskies’ pass-catcher sure knows how to find the end zone.
Howie Roseman and the Eagles have proven many times in the past that they don’t draft based on need. The strategy is always the best player available. If that’s Boston according to the Eagles’ board when they get on the clock at No. 23, then he could certainly be the pick.
