A man has died and six people have become ill after a spate of suspected drug overdoses in Grimsby, police have said.

The force said the incidents happened between Friday 6 and Tuesday 10 February.

Det Insp Tom Kelly, of Humberside Police, said officers were trying to establish “the full circumstances of the incidents and whether the reports are linked”.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation,” he added. “However we are considering the possibility that they could have been caused by contaminated batches of drugs.”

The force has appealed for any information about the incidents.

“We continue to work alongside the local authority, drugs and alcohol treatment services and the hospital trust to provide the appropriate support and advice to those who have been affected,” Kelly added.
