The Hamilton Tiger-Cats had a busier first day of free agency in 2026 than anticipated. Based on reports last week, the Tiger-Cats were expected to finalize deals with offensive lineman Eric Lofton, wide receiver Tyson Middlemost, and defensive end Kene Onyeka. However, the Tiger-Cats also signed kick and punt return specialist Mario Alford.

In addition to signing Alford, the Tiger-Cats also signed two additional free agents who were not reported before the opening day of free agency. Both of those free agents were on the offensive side of the ball to help boost the Tiger-Cats offensive depth at wide receiver and along the offensive line. Those signings added wide receiver Keric Wheatfall and offensive lineman Trevor Reid to the Tiger-Cats roster for a 2-year deal for each player.

Hamilton signed offensive lineman Trevor Reid after he played in 18 games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2024.

Trevor Reid is a 6’5″, 307-pound offensive lineman who played football at the University of Louisville from 2020 until 2022. While playing for the Cardinals, Reid played in 32 games and started 23 of those games. Reid brings elite athleticism with outstanding speed and range for an offensive lineman of his size. He has a reputation for being durable and versatile, which means he can play many different roles on the Tiger-Cats offensive line depending on what is needed each week.

In addition to signing Reid, the Tiger-Cats also made a deal to secure American wide receiver Keric Wheatfall for the next 2 seasons.

Keric Wheatfall is a 6’1″, 185-pound wide receiver who played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the last two seasons. While playing for the Blue Bombers, Wheatfall appeared in 23 games and caught 53 passes for 944 yards, including 5 touchdown receptions. Before coming to the CFL, Wheatfall played for the Philadelphia Stars in the 2023 USFL season, appearing in 3 games.

Wheatfall played college football at Fresno State University from 2019 to 2021, appearing in 28 games for the Bulldogs. During those games, Wheatfall caught 78 passes for 1,286 yards and scored 6 touchdowns. While playing in the CFL, Wheatfall has demonstrated outstanding body control and vertical explosiveness, and he is effective at picking up yards after the catch.
