Police are asking for the public’s help after an 11‑year‑old boy managed to break free from a man who allegedly tried to abduct him along a northeast Calgary pathway Friday evening.

Investigators say the incident happened when a boy was riding his bicycle between 6 and 7 p.m. on a path east of Coventry Hills School, between Covewood Park and Coverpark Road NE.

It is alleged that a man approached and attempted to force the boy to come with him. The child was able to get away and return home, where his parents immediately called the police.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s, about 5’6” tall, wearing black sweatpants, a grey hoodie and white shoes.

Police say they have not gotten similar reports, and the incident appears to be isolated.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the man, or who has security or dashcam footage from the area during that time, to contact police at 403‑266‑1234. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
