Ruby Price, 14, recently travelled to Sweden to participate in the annual Golden Girl Boxing Championships.
More than 500 competitors took part at the event, which has been running since 2009, in the city of Borås, from Friday January 30 to Sunday February 1.
It is open to all categories and levels and Beath Boxing Club member Ruby, a current silver medallist at Boxing Scotland’s Golden Gloves Championships, fought in the under-17 50kg category.
In her first major competition overseas, after beginning to train with the club around 18 months ago, she was drawn to face a four-time Irish champion, Allana Berry, in the semi-finals.
Ruby lost out in the bout, with her opponent, who went on to win a silver medal, awarded all three rounds by the judges.
However, Beath head coach, Jon-Paul Hynd, is confident that the experience gained, which included sparring with some top European competitors, will prove to be positive.
“She didn’t get the decision, but the coaches that were out there were delighted with her performance,” he said.
“It was good preparation for some upcoming tournaments that we’ll be entering her into.
“She was really happy with the experience. She’s never been to anything like that before, so she’s learned a lot, and she’ll push on from there.
“She got to spar with girls from across Europe. It’s all good learning for her. She did really well in the sparring so the coaches are really happy with her.”
Also competing at the event was Dunfermline boxer, Aoife O’Halloran, a member of Alloa Boxing Club, who won a gold medal in her category.
On Saturday, Ruby was victorious in a bout in Carlisle, and is set to appear on their home show, which takes place on Friday evening.
That is taking place ahead of the start of Boxing Scotland’s Golden Gloves Championships, and Jon-Paul added: “There’ll be 16 bouts in total, involving clubs from England, all around Scotland, and we’ve got boxers travelling from Jersey.
“So, with it being the week before the Golden Gloves Championship, the timing of that is to prepare the guys specifically for that tournament.”
