Kudos to Vincent Kompany for trusting his starting XI to weather the storm and get the job done in the second half. It came from an unlikely source, Josip Stanišić drawing a penalty kick, but the immediate second goal from Luis Díaz was the real dagger that broke Leipzig.Michael Olise is the gift that keeps on giving. He is a world class winger who constantly picks out amazing passes solely because he creates a beneficial situation. This was not a sexy win but it was a tactically intentional victory. Thanks to a healthy Joshua Kimmich, Bayern is picking the right moments to possess, press, counter, and defend as an entire unit.Unfortunately for Bayern’s unused subs, Kompany played the 15 players that he trusts in key matches. Kompany will continue to rotate the other players in Bundesliga matches but he is solidifying the team’s chemistry down the stretch run for the treble.

Bayern will return to Bundesliga action this weekend with a road match against relegation zone Werder Bremen. The draw for the DFB-Pokal semifinal round will take place on Sunday, February 15th. The semifinal matchdays are set for April 21-22. Bayern will play against Leverkusen, Stuttgart, or Freiburg.

Leipzig exploded out of the gates with an attacking mindset and it nearly paid off with that early goal that was correctly overturned by VAR.After the first ten minutes, Bayern settled into possession and started finding the soft spots in Leipzig’s defense, primarily behind the outside backs. Both teams have wasted their limited opportunities, especially on set pieces.Yan Diomande has received a lot of attention lately in the transfer rumor market, but Antonio Nusa has twisted Josip Stanišić into knots on a number of occasions. Dayot Upamecano needs to continue to help out against Nusa to keep him neutralized.

HT: Bayern tied 0-0 at the break.

45’+5: Maarten Vandevoordt makes a blind reflex save on Harry Kane’s header. Another goal line clearance for Leipzig.

29’: Yellow card. Leipzig boss Ole Werner is booked for arguing about the missed foul call.

17’: Harry Kane heads the ball across the box where Aleksandar Pavlović takes it in the face instead of deflecting it into the net. Missed opportunity for Bayern but at least momentum has swung in their favor.

12’: Harry Kane swerves through the box but is shot is ricocheted then cleared off the goal line.

10’: It has been all Leipzig so far. Bayern needs to wake up!

4’: Yan Diomande powers through the defense and the ball skips through to Christoph Baumgartner. Baumgartner smashes the volley for the opening goal. Luckily, the goal is overturned by VAR with an offside decision.

1’: LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Vincent Kompany has elected to run with the same starting XI that demolished Hoffenheim over the weekend. Kim Min-jae is back on the bench, making Nicolas Jackson unavailable for this match. Bayern’s group of subs is both talented and fresh which will add life in the second half.

Bayern Munich got back on track over the weekend, smashing 10-man Hoffenheim with a 5-1 scoreline. Bayern’s DFB-Pokal opponent, RB Leipzig, can sympathize with Hoffenheim because Bayern has run through Leipzig twice this season, 6-0 in August and 5-1 two weeks ago.

Bayern is a heavy betting favorite to win the German cup, despite failing to advance to the semifinal for the past five seasons. The other title contenders, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart, both advanced to the semifinal stage with 3-0 wins last week.

Bayern wins 3-1. Michael Olise will score twice in the first half to give Bayern a resounding lead in front of the home crowd. Leipzig will steal one back from a set piece early in the second half. Super sub Jamal Musiala will immediately come on the pitch, dribble through three defenders, and lay off a tap-in for Harry Kane.
