After a stink on social media, the Oshawa Generals have apologized for an email to season-ticket holders.

The Ontario Hockey League team issued a mea culpa on Thursday afternoon for a Tuesday email that reminded fans to shower before attending games at the Tribute Communities Centre.

“We’re thrilled to have you with us each and every game and appreciate the energy you bring to the arena,” the email read. “To help ensure a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for everyone, we kindly ask for your cooperation with a few simple hygiene practices. Please make use of the hand-sanitizing stations located throughout the arena, cover coughs and sneezes, and be mindful of personal cleanliness while sharing our space with fellow fans…If you went to the gym or did something that produced body odor, please shower before attending the game.”

Thursday’s apology took a light tone.

“Hey Gensnation,” it read. “We took a penalty on that last one. It’s not our place to overstep like we did. We are sorry and hopefully we can wash this one off.”

The Generals sit last in the 20-team OHL on 27 points.
