GAINESVILLE- Nationally ranked Charlotte Men’s Golf will begin their spring season this weekend (Feb. 14-15) as they travel to Gainesville for the Gators Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

This will be the 49th year of the event, tied for sixth longest-run D1 golf tournament. Justin Matthews impressed in last year’s competition, finishing second individually (202, -8) coming up short in a playoff. The course is played as a par-70 at 6,701 yards with a modified shotgun start at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Charlotte went 38-16-2 in their four fall tournaments including a second-place finish at the Bryan Bros Collegiate and a top five finish at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, where Chase Cline won the individual title to earn himself American Conference Golfer of the Month honors. The 49ers are the highest ranked team in the American at 20th, with Rice (53rd) and Memphis (58th) as the next two.

“Overall, I feel like the fall season was good,” said Head Coach Ryan Cabbage. “We showed signs of being a good team at times, but we also have a lot of things that we need to get better and improve in if we expect to compete with the best teams in the country. Three different times this fall we played the final round with either Virginia or LSU, who are two of the top four teams in the country, so we know what that looks and feels like. We know we can compete with that, but we also know we’ve got to get better to beat those teams.”
