Port of spain—The National Cycling Velodrome (NCV) in Balmain, Couva, has been closed for repairs.

Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation (TTCF) president Rowena Williams said yesterday the track was closed for repairs, “due to leaking which could potentially affect the track totally.”

“It will affect us worse if it is not dealt with soon,” said Williams.

At issue are two major leaks from the venue’s roofing, causing water to drop directly onto the wooden track, which could affect the long-term integrity of the material for the 250m circuit, according to TTCF racing committee chairman Gregopry D’Andrade.

Earlier this week, the TTCF racing secretary Delia Toppin-Lopez wrote to clubs advising that the NCV would be closed “for all training for urgent maintenance works for the period February 13, 2026 to March 06, 2026.”

“The (TTCF) event schedule (sic) for the 28th February, 2026 will be postponed to a later date to which you will be notified,” she noted in the correspondence, “We apologise (sic) for any inconvenience caused.”

Asked how the lack of this venue for that period would affect the preparations of cyclists seeking to perform at the TTCF’s Easter Grand Prix and seeking to qualify for the upcoming Caribbean Track Championships, Williams said “it won’t affect anything at the moment.”

A 13-member national team departed T&T last Wednesday for the February 16-22 Pan American Elite Track Cycling Championships in Santiago, Chile.
