WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s tennis team was edged at No. 21 Wellesley, 4–3, this afternoon at the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse, as the match came down to tightly contested singles play after the Engineers dropped the doubles point on the road.
RPI faced an early deficit after Wellesley claimed all three doubles flights, with the closest result coming at the top spot where Nicole Ridenour and Anushka Jaiswal battled before falling 7–5. Juliette Ceas and Victoria Sarabosing competed at second doubles, while the tandem of Gauri Muliyil and Kayla Wheeler rounded out the lineup at third doubles.
The Engineers responded with strong performances in singles, earning three victories to keep the match in sight throughout the afternoon.
Ridenour delivered a decisive win at first singles, earning a straight-set victory with identical 6–3 scores. Muliyil followed with a composed effort at third singles, capturing a 6–4, 6–3 win to add another point for RPI. Sarabosing closed out the Engineers’ singles wins at sixth position, controlling play in a 6–4, 6–2 result.
Additional matches were closely contested, as Wheeler competed at second singles, Ceas at fourth, and Jaiswal at fifth, with each facing challenging opposition in straight-set decisions.
The Engineers will continue their spring slate with a road matchup at NYU on Saturday.
