The Minnesota Lynx’s dominant 111-58 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday was nearly flawless — except for an unfortunate ankle injury to the team’s star player.

Napheesa Collier rolled her right ankle and suffered a sprain during the 53-point victory, an injury that will rule out the All-Star forward for at least two weeks. For now, Collier’s MVP candidacy is not affected — oddsmakers still have her as the betting favorite — but the league-best Lynx have a tough run of games coming up amid this injury to the WNBA’s top scorer.

Over the next 17 days, the Lynx visit the Seattle Storm and play twice in New York against the Liberty, in addition to tough road games in Atlanta and in Indiana. Without Collier’s 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, Minnesota head coach and top executive Cheryl Reeve will have to get creative as the 24-5 Lynx face some adversity.

Reeve already has swung a trade for Dallas Wings guard Dijonai Carrington, one of the WNBA’s top defenders. That deal, a two-for-one player exchange, created an extra roster spot in Minneapolis — and veteran WNBA reporter Richard Cohen thinks a move for a frontcourt player is on the table in advance of Thursday’s trade deadline.

With just over $37,000 in cap space, the Lynx could re-sign French center Marième Badiane or bring back their former first-round pick Alissa Pili, who is on a seven-day contract with the Los Angeles Sparks. However, Cohen suggests a more enticing opportunity could come Minnesota’s way, as who wouldn’t want to play for the league’s best team?

“You’re an attractive destination when you’re sat at the top of the standings and a favorite for the title,” Cohen wrote in his newsletter.
