Women’s Tennis Tops UC San Diego With Epic Comeback

Box Score SAN DIEGO–The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team (4-3, 1-0 Big West) mounted an epic comeback to defeat UC San Diego (4-6, 0-1 Big West), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Wahine found themselves trailing 1-3 before finishing with a flourish, winning their final three singles matches for their comeback win in their Big West opener.

The Rainbow Wahine opened the match strong, earning the doubles point with victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. UH’s No. 1 duo of Grete Gull and Sophie Rachor pulled away from UCSD’s Alisa Lansky and Allison Lian, 6-2. Hawai’i’s No. 2 Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno followed soon after with a 6-2 win over Olivia Allegre and Julia Visaya to claim the win and the team point.

The Tritons battled back, reeling off three-straight singles wins to take a 3-1 lead with wins on the No. 2, 1, 3, and 6 courts.

Hawai’i’s No. 5 Hanna Galindo got back on the winning track recording a 6-2, 6-4 win over UCSD’s Lian. Galindo now leads UH with an overall record of 5-1. On the No. 2 court, Nepomuceno came through in the clutch with a tough, three-set win, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 over Carling Allaye Chan to even the match at 3-3. For Nepomuceno, it marked her first win of the 2026 Spring season.

UH’s No. 4 Sophie Rachor rallied after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker before winning the final two sets over Hana Gamracy, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-2 to complete the comeback win. 

The Rainbow Wahine will wrap up their San Diego road swing on Sunday, Feb. 15th at the Aztec Tennis Center at 11:00 A.M. HT when they face San Diego State.
