A locally raised athlete is set to return to the national spotlight after capturing gold this past weekend at boxing provincials.
Following the postponement of provincials in Swift Current, Jaden Toye competed in the Boxing Saskatchewan 2025 Provincial Boxing Championships on Saturday in Regina, where he secured the major win.
The 21-year-old shared that he didn’t get to compete on home turf as planned, but was thrilled to have won against last year’s national silver medalist.
“The original draw was kept, so I ended up fighting the same guy that I was supposed to fight,” he said. “He’s a tough guy to beat, but I felt like I did pretty well. I dominated all three rounds and scored a knockdown.
“A highlight of it would be when I dropped him with a big overhand right, that was a really good feeling, and I knew I had it after that.”
The 70-kilogram division athlete will next head to Alberta to compete at the Western Canadian Boxing Championships this weekend. He’ll return to Alberta for nationals from March 18 to 21 in Calgary.
“To everybody who supports me and shows me love through win, loss, rain, or shine, much love and thank you, everybody,” Toye added.
