One Seattle Seahawks player was bracing for NFL punishment, but so far, it appears he’s getting off without punishment.
The Seattle Seahawks are still celebrating their Super Bowl win, and they should, since it marked the second time the franchise has won the championship in the history of the team. Now, the team is in the offseason and already prepping for the 2026-27 season.
The game marked the fourth time the Seattle Seahawks have played in the championship game, with a win in 2013 and losses in 2005 and 2014.
Now, one Seahawks player who was bracing for NFL punishment seems to be getting off without issues. That makes the win even better.
Josh Jobe and Stefon Diggs’ ‘Skirmish’ Goes Unnoticed (for Now)
In a February 8 piece for NBC Sports, Mike Florio brings up a play that he thinks should have been called by the refs.
“After a first-down scramble by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye from the New England 35,” he notes in the piece, “Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs and Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe got into a scrum. No flags were thrown.”
The incident began when “Jobe knocked Diggs down” after he was out of bounds, Florio explains. Then, a little altercation ensued. Diggs went after Jobe and pulled his facemask, and Jobe hit Diggs in the facemask two times. “One was open-handed, the other was a punch,” Florio states.
“Both players undoubtedly will be fined,” Florio stated. “Jobe could end up with more than one.”
Every week during the season, the NFL gives punishments to players for actions taken during the previous week’s games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.”
As for how these rules and instated, before the season begins, the NFL and NFL Players Association agree on the set of game-related rules violations that result in these accountability measures.
On Saturday, February 14, the NFL didn’t announce punishment for either teams. Now, it’s possible they’re waiting longer for a decision, but it’s worth noting that they also didn’t give out any fines during last year’s Super Bowl game. So, both players for now are going unpunished.
The funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”
Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl History
It’s worth looking back on the Seahawks’ first Super Bowl win, now that the franchise has two in their bragging rights.
“The Seahawks decisively defeated the Broncos, 43-8, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 2014. The Seahawks were underdogs going into the game,” CBS News explains. The Broncos had Peyton Manning as their quarterback and were known for a high-scoring offense, but the Seahawks scored their first points just 12 seconds after kickoff.”
They add, “By halftime, the Seahawks were up 22-0. The team relied on a strong defense that kept Manning and the rest of the Broncos’ offense from getting a foothold.”
