The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian offensive lineman Gregor MacKellar to a one-year contract for the 2026 season. He became a free agent last week.

The six-foot-four, 311-pound blocker spent the 2025 season with the Edmonton Elks and made 13 starts at right guard, earning around $115,000.

The 27-year-old was originally a first-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. He spent three seasons with the team and dressed for 43 regular-season games, making 12 starts in 2022, one start in 2023, and nine starts in 2024. MacKellar dressed for the team’s Grey Cup wins in 2022 and 2024.

The native of Timberlea, N.S. played collegiately at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S. where he helped the X-Men win two Loney Bowls. He was named a second-team All-Canadian in 2021.

Ryan Dinwiddie, who was hired as the head coach and general manager of the Redblacks in December, was the head coach through MacKellar’s tenure in Toronto.

The Ottawa Redblacks finished fourth in the East Division standings in 2025 with a 4-14 record, missing the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Dru Brown went 2-7 over nine starts at quarterback, throwing for 2,389 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Dustin Crum went 2-4 over six starts, throwing for 1,771 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions.

The Redblacks ranked sixth in net offence, fifth in net defence, and ninth with a turnover differential of minus-16. The club’s leading rusher was William Stanback with 698 yards, leading receiver was Justin Hardy with 1,019 yards, and leading tackler was Adarius Pickett with 84 tackles. Ottawa finished eighth in attendance with average crowds of 18,136, which was a 4.2 percent decrease from the previous year.
