Nanaimo RCMP are asking people not to be alarmed if they see a low flying aircraft over Nanaimo Harbour.
NAV Canada will make passes over the harbour between 10:30 a.m. and noon Tuesday, Feb. 17, in a large transport‑category jet aircraft.
NAV Canada Flight Inspection, according to the RCMP press release, has advised that the flight is part of a regularly scheduled verification of the existing approach at the harbour airport.
The flight is weather‑dependent, and the total flying time will be about 15 minutes.
If weather impacts the planned flight window, the flight may be rescheduled to Tuesday afternoon or be pushed back to Wednesday, Feb. 18.
The flight is coordinated by NAV Canada, which is working with the Nanaimo harbour master and the Nanaimo Airport manager.
NAV Canada flight inspection aircraft are equipped with technicians and measurement and calibration equipment to test the functioning and accuracy of air navigation aids, such as range finding beacons and instrument landing system equipment.
