The City of Montreal said it had created a borough mayors’ roundtable for better collaboration and sharing of expertise between the boroughs.

The forum of elected officials from the city’s 19 boroughs was one of the key promises Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada had made on the campaign trail following her critique of the Plante administration for lack of coordination.

In a press release Monday, the City said the mayors’ forum had already met twice this year.

“The Table des maires allows elected officials from across Montreal to collaborate, share their experiences, establish best practices, and advise the executive committee,” Martinez Ferrada said, adding that the borough mayors were best placed to know the needs of their residents.

LaSalle Mayor Nancy Blanchet and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension Mayor Jean-François Lalonde will co-lead the roundtable. They also serve on the executive committee.

“The initial exchanges are promising and herald a collaboration that will enable us to move forward more quickly and effectively for the benefit of our communities,” said Blanchet, who was elected under Équipe LaSalle.

“(The roundtable) is an essential tool for strengthening our action in the field,” said Lalonde. Lalonde is part of Projet Montréal.
