One person has been charged with manslaughter and two arson charges following a fatal house fire on Young Street last week.

Winnipeg police have arrested a person after a house fire claimed a man’s life on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to a house fire around 6 p.m. on Feb. 12, in the 200 block of Young Street.

Police said multiple people were evacuated from the home, and two people were taken to hospital — one in stable condition, the other in critical condition.

A firefighter was also taken to hospital in stable condition.

The person in critical condition died from their injuries and has been identified as 68-year-old Gregory George Thomas.

The homicide unit took over the investigation, and determined the fire was started on purpose, police said.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter and two counts of arson disregarding human life. He remains in custody.
