Family Day in 2026 falls on Monday, February 16, in Ontario, and many stores and businesses in Mississauga will be closed.

While it’s not a national statutory holiday, Family Day is observed in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan. It falls on the third Monday in February.

Here’s what’s open and closed on Monday, Feb. 16 in Mississauga:

Open:

Square One Shopping Centre, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WalMart (Square One) 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Whole Food Market Square One – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Some smaller grocery stores, such as Rabba grocery stores
Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations
Most restaurants that are usually open on Mondays will be open, but call ahead to be sure
Canada Post (mail pickup and delivery will not be affected by the holiday)
Federal government offices (most services can be delivered online)
Celebration Square ice rink (open 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.) and other special Family Day events here

What’s open and closed in:
Brampton, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara Region, and Durham Region

Closed:

Erin Mills Town Centre, Heartland Town Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall and other major malls in the city (with the exception of Square One, which is open)
Other major malls outside the city, including Sherway Gardens and Yorkdale Shopping Centre
Most major grocery stores (check online or call for smaller/select locations that might be open)
LCBO (some LCBO Convenience Outlets may be open, call ahead)
The Beer Store
Wine Rack
Banks
Libraries (closed on Sunday, Feb. 15 as well, but check individual branches to be sure)
City Hall
Provincial government offices
Region of Peel offices and Region of Peel non-emergency services, including Access Peel, Early Years and Child Care Services, Healthy Sexuality Clinic, Family Health Call Centre, Dental Services Contact Centre, Needle Exchange Program – Mobile Van, Peel Living Office and Ontario Works in Peel

Transit

MiWay will operate on a holiday schedule (check online)
GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule
Region of Peel TransHelp: all trips for Monday, Feb. 16 and Tuesday, Feb. 17 must be booked by Sunday at 7 p.m.

Garbage:

No garbage pickup on Monday, Feb. 16 (all waste collection will be one day later than usual)
Community Recycling Centres will be closed Monday as well
