REGINA – The 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships opened Tuesday night, with all 16 U SPORTS teams beginning round-robin play at the Caledonian Curling Club in Regina.
The Dinos men opened with a convincing 7-3 comeback win over Dalhousie, while the women dropped their opening match in an extra-end thriller, 7-6.
In their opening match at nationals, the Calgary men started from behind as Dalhousie opened the scoring with a single in the opening end. The Dinos tallied two in the third before the Tigers tied things back up in the fourth. The two teams traded singles over the next two ends before the Dinos emphatically ended things with a four spot in the seventh end.
On the women’s side, Calgary scored one each in the second and third for the early lead, but McMaster would respond with three in the fourth before stealing a pair in the fifth. Despite the 5-2 deficit, the Dinos rallied, placing two in the sixth. The Marauders went ahead 6-4 after seven ends, only to see the Scarlet & Gold respond with great shot making across the board in the eighth to tally two and send this one to extra ends. McMaster was able to score in the ninth to just edge out the opening win.
Both teams are back in action with two more matches Wednesday. The women will go up against two familiar foes in Alberta (11:30 a.m. MT) and Regina (7 p.m. MT), while the men will square off against Carleton in the morning session before taking on Memorial to close out Day 2.
