A two-alarm fire in Richmond has “severely damaged” two homes and displaced the families who live there, according to fire officials.
Ottawa Fire spokesperson Nick DeFazio said firefighters received multiple 911 calls, minutes before 2 p.m. Tuesday, about a house engulfed in flames on Pelham Crescent, near Perth Street.
DeFazio explained that once crews arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread to a neighbouring home.
He says everything was under control by 3:21 p.m., but both homes were quite damaged.
Two adults living at the initial home are now displaced, along with four children, two adults and a German Shepherd from the neighbouring unit.
Paramedics said a man who suffered minor smoke-inhalation injuries was taken to hospital in stable condition.
DeFazio said an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, though nothing suspicious has so far been found.
