The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is looking at potential grant funding to install Mobi-Mats at Okanagan Falls.

Mobi-mats are non-slip portably pathways designed to allow people with limited mobility or who use mobility aids to have a safer and easier time getting into the water.

The District of Summerland unrolled Mobi-Mats at Rotary Beach Park in 2025, and the City of Penticton added them to Sudbury Beach in 2024, before expanding them to Skaha Lake Park and Okanagan Lake Beach in 2025.

Penticton was just the third community in all of Canada to install the Mobi-Mats at a public beach at the time.

The funding for the Okanagan Falls Mobi-Mats would be through the RBC Barrier Busters Grant Program, which is delivered in partnership with the Rick Hansen Foundation.

The grants can provide up to $40,000, with the RDOS estimating that the cost for the Okanagan Falls project would be around $30,000.

The RDOS board of directors will be asked to support staff applying for the grant at their upcoming meeting on Feb. 19.
