(Gray News) – Mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey is returning to the cage after nearly a decade, and she will be pitted against Gina Carano.
The May 16 match will be streamed live exclusively on Netflix at no extra cost to subscribers. It will be the platform’s first-ever MMA broadcast.

Netflix said the bout will be held in a hexagonal cage at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and will be streamed live globally.
Rousey vs. Carano is expected to be contested as a featherweight bout at 145 pounds.
Rousey and Carano will be fighting for the first time in their careers.
“Been waiting so long to announce this,” Rousey said. “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sports history, and we’re partnering with the fighter-first promoter, MVP, as well as the baddest streamer on the planet, Netflix. This is for all MMA fans, past, present, and future.”
Rousey had a record-setting run from 2011 to 2016, shattering the glass ceiling for women’s MMA. After she reigned as UFC bantamweight champion, she went on to push women’s WWE to its first WrestleMania event in history. She has also gone on to become a New York Times bestselling author as well as an actress in franchises like “The Fast and the Furious” and “The Expendables.”
Carano is another legend of the sport, having taken part in MMA from 2006 to 2009, before women could compete in the UFC. She then became one of the first combat sports stars to cross over into the entertainment industry, getting roles in movies like “Haywire,” “Fast and Furious 6,” “Deadpool,” and the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian.”
“Ronda came to me and said there was only one person she would make a comeback for, and it’s been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Carano said.
