Edmonton police say 2026 started off with more shootings than 2025.

EPS confirmed Wednesday that January 2026 has 12 shootings across the city, compared to nine in 2025.

Eight of those shootings are believed to have been targetted, four resulted in injuries, and nine had the potential for someone to be injured.

Police note that 67 per cent of the shootings took place in the afternoon or evening hours.

“Police continue to be focused on removing crime guns from the streets of Edmonton. Several arrests have been made so far in 2026 in connection with firearm‑related investigations. The EPS continues to tackle gun crime from every angle, with the safety of the public at the forefront of our efforts,” says Staff Sergeant David Graham of the EPS Firearms Investigation Section.

EPS notes that 97 crime-related guns were also seized in January.
