Christine Bergeron, a prominent B.C. business leader and former president and CEO of Concert Properties and Vancity Credit Union, has died after a battle with cancer. She passed away on Feb. 13, 2026.
Bergeron led one of B.C.’s largest real estate development companies from September 2023 to September 2025, a period the company described as transformative. She went on leave beginning in October 2025.
“Christine was a rare and exceptional leader, whose professional brilliance was matched by her depth of character and belief in people. She asked the hard questions, listened deeply and challenged us not to simply deliver results, but to do so in a way that honours our values,” said John Dooling, interim CEO, managing director, and chief financial officer of Concert Properties, in a statement.
Before joining Concert Properties, Bergeron served as president and CEO of Vancity, Canada’s largest credit union. Her career at the organization spanned more than a decade, during which she held several senior leadership roles before taking the top job. As CEO, she set a direction that emphasized social and environmental responsibility while overseeing record financial results in 2020 and 2021.
“As CEO, Christine steered Vancity through the pandemic and advanced Vancity’s commitment to climate action, equity and building resilient communities — all through a people-first lens. Under her leadership, serving our members and caring for each other was always top of mind,” reads a statement from Vancity.
“More than anything, we will always remember Christine as a kind, compassionate person, a beloved leader and colleague, and as that rare human being who not only sees the promise of a better world — but also takes action to further our dreams for a cleaner and fairer world for all.”
Prior to her 12 years in various positions with the credit union, she worked in sustainable finance and impact investing, helping launch cleantech venture firm Chrysalix Energy Ventures and later co-founding Shoreline West Asset Management. She has also been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to businesses and the wider community.
Bergeron was deeply involved in governance and public policy through board and advisory roles, serving on nearly 20 organizations over the course of her career. Most recently, she sat on the boards of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade (GVBOT) and the Urban Development Institute (UDI).
“Christine left an indelible mark on all the work she embraced. She was curious, strategic, and smart. My heart goes out to her family and friends. Our community has lost a real force, whose contributions will be dearly missed,” said Bridgitte Anderson, president and CEO of GVBOT.
Anne McMullin, who left her longtime role as the president and CEO of UDI this month, said she is “beyond heartbroken,” adding that “I’ve known Christine along the way as we’ve navigated careers, motherhood, friendship and staying grounded — which she always did. I was so excited when she was named CEO of Concert Properties, and I would actually get to work alongside her.”
Dooling added, “Christine’s passing has left a deep sense of loss across Concert Properties. She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the honour of knowing her.”
