An Ontario man faces criminal charges after his gun was found by police in Mississauga, some 200 kilometres from his home.
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police said they were contacted on Jan. 15 by Peel Regional Police to let them know that a handgun registered to a man from Huron East had been recovered in Mississauga.
Huron East is located in southwestern Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron.
OPP didn’t say where in Mississauga the gun was found or under what circumstances it was located by police in Peel.
Police subsequently tracked down the gun owner and charges were laid.
A 52-year-old man from Huron East is charged with:
Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
Lost firearm or weapon — not reported.
The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 16 in Goderich, police said.
