The Asmita Women’s Track Cycling League commenced at the Cycling Velodrome of Guru Nanak Dev University here on Tursday. The Khelo India League event was inaugurated by DSE, Amritsar, Ashu Vishal and Assistant Secretary, Cycling Federation of India, Neeraj Tanwar. Harshita Jakhad won gold in the one-km Time Trial (Women’s Junior) category.

A release issued by the District Public Relations Office said women cyclists from eight northern states of India displayed their talent and competitive spirit in the league. Neeraj Tanwar, North Zone in-charge and assistant secretary of the Cycling Federation of India, informed that the competition is being organised with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Cycling Federation of India.

Cyclists from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Chandigarh participated in today’s events. He said that exciting competitions were witnessed among sub-junior and junior category women cyclists. A total prize money of Rs 3.45 lakh will be awarded to the winners. The league is a significant initiative to promote women’s cycling and nurture young talent.

In the one-km Individual Time Trial Women Elite event, Chanika (NCO, Patiala) won the gold medal, Rizia (NCO, Patiala) secured silver and Santoshi (NCO, Patiala), claimed the bronze.

In the one-km Time Trial Women’s Junior category, Harshita Jakhad (Punjab) won the gold, Bhumika (Haryana) secured the silver and Suhani (NCO, Patiala) won the bronze medal.

In the 500m Time Trial Sub-Junior and Youth Girls event, Palakpreet Kaur (Punjab) won the gold medal, Japneet Kaur (Punjab) secured the silver and Anjali Jakhad (Punjab) claimed the bronze.

In the 200m Sprint Elite Women’s category, Rizia (NCO, Patiala) won the gold medal, Chanika (NCO, Patiala) secured the silver medal and Lakshis (Punjab) won the bronze medal.

In the 200m Sprint Women’s Junior event, Harshita Jakhad (Punjab) won the gold medal, Suhani (NCO, Patiala) secured the silver and Japnoor Kaur Randhawa (Punjab) claimed the bronze medal.

In the 200m Sprint Sub-Junior Girls’ category, Anjali Jakhad (Punjab) won the gold medal, Palak Preet Kaur (Punjab) secured the silver and Tarun Kumari (NCO Patiala) won the bronze.
