Two kidnapping suspects from Brampton have been arrested and a third is on the run after a victim was abducted and held for a $200,000 ransom, Peel police say.

The kidnapping was reported on Nov. 6 when a man contacted Peel Regional Police saying that a close friend of his had been kidnapped.

Investigators say the kidnappers demanded a $200,000 ransom, and told the man that if he did not provide payment they would harm the victim.

But the victim was located safely and unharmed, police said, but didn’t say where the victim was found. One suspect was arrested at the scene, where police say they also found a .45 calibre firearm.

No details about the victim have been released.

Then on Feb. 13, Peel police say officers searched two locations in Brampton where they found “further evidence” of the kidnapping, one loaded firearm magazine and an unloaded rifle magazine.

Two suspects from Brampton have been arrested and charged with multiple offences including kidnapping while using firearm, while a third suspect is still at large.

Peel police say Harkirat Singh and Amritpal Singh, both 27 and from Brampton, have been charged with offences including kidnapping while using firearm, and knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for Hasanpreet Singh, 28, of no fixed address.

“This investigation highlights the hard work and dedication of our officers and investigators,” Peel police Dep. Chief Marc Andrews said in a release. “Through their coordinated and persistent efforts, they removed an illegal firearm from our streets and intervened in time to protect a victim from harm.”
