UPDATE: Alectra said in an update that power has been restored for all customers. Anyone still experiencing an outage can visit www.alectrautilities.com to make a report.

Repair crews are working to restore service after the power went out for more than 1,900 homes and businesses in Brampton.

Alectra says the outage happened around 4:15 p.m., impacting some ‎1,914 customers in the area of Hurontario Street south of Steeles Avenue and north of Highway 407.

The utility provider said nearly 1,450 homes and businesses were still without service as of around 5:30 p.m.

Alectra said the outage was caused by an “undetermined problem,” and the issue is under investigation. The utility provider said some recent outages in the Peel and York areas were due to “salt contamination” from de-icing products.

Alectra says melting snow can lead to issues for overhead distribution lines and other equipment due to salt particles and moisture. The utility provider says most of the outages have been “momentary,” while some were longer as crews worked to repair damaged equipment.
