Manchester United travel the short distance to Liverpool to take on Everton on Monday evening.

In one of England’s most historic fixtures, the two teams have played each other 216 times, with the first fixture dating back to 1892 when Newton Heath lost 0-6 to the Toffees.

First trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium

Everton Football Club seemed intrinsically connected to Goodison Park, having started playing there in 1892 and closing its doors in August 2025.

The Red Devils drew their final match there in February last year, 2-2, when late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte salvaged a point.

United won a total of 37 matches at Goodison, losing 47 in their overall history after playing 107 games at the famous old stadium.

The Toffees have not won at their new stadium since 6 December and have been much better away from home this season.

In fact, they have only enjoyed five wins this season in all competitions at home, and United will hope this erratic form continues.

Bruno Fernandes looking to break record

Bruno Fernandes has been one of United’s key performers this season and leads the league in assists.

The BBC report that, the “Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes has been involved in 10 goals in his last nine away Premier League appearances (two goals, eight assists). His eight away assists this season are the joint most by a Red Devils player in a single season, along with Ryan Giggs in 2001-02.”

An assist on Monday night would already break a club record.

The Portugal international also has a very good record away to Everton, having scored four goals at Goodison. Ruud van Nistelrooy (five) and Jack Rowley (six) are the only others to have found the net more away to Everton in the club’s history.

He has a total of six goals and five assists versus the Toffees in just 11 matches.

Happy travels

The Red Devils have had a very good record versus Everton over the years.

The BBC state that, “Manchester United have more away wins (19) and more wins overall (42) against Everton than any team has against another in Premier League history.”

Michael Carrick will be hoping to make it five wins from six to keep United moving forward in their race for the Champions League spots.
