Strathmore residents are expected to face renewed water restrictions next month as Calgary begins repairs on a major water main.

Construction on Calgary’s Bearspaw South Feeder Main is set to begin March 9 and is expected to be completed in early April.

Strathmore receives its treated water from Calgary and will likely be treated to the same restrictions during the repair period. Residents may be asked to reduce consumption by up to 30 liters per day.

During previous Stage 4 water restrictions in late December and January, town officials encouraged residents to save water by limiting showers to three minutes, flushing toilets only when necessary, and running dishwasher and washing machines only with full loads.

Mayor Pat Fule has also indicated the possibility of additional water restrictions later this year, potentially lasting up to 10 days

The restrictions are intended to help ensure the Glenmore Reservoir is not depleted and to maintain stability in Calgary’s water system while upgrades are underway.
