The Vancouver Canucks now know what it will take to finally trade Evander Kane

The Vancouver Canucks are adamant on trading Evander Kane before the trade deadline, and they have an interested suitor in the league leading Colorado Avalanche, but it will rely on the Canucks retaining some salary.
“As the Vancouver Canucks continue to evaluate their options on the trade market, everyone is curious about what the future holds for Evander Kane, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and is widely expected to be moved before the deadline in a little over two weeks.”-Jaxon
Evander Kane will not get traded carrying his full salary.
Nestor Quixtan of Mile High Sticking reported on the one condition the Avalanche have for getting Kane. It would not be too hard to retain as Kane’s contract is worth only two million at this point of the season, so retaining half is very doable.
“While that idea seems like a solid one, it largely depends on one condition. Per insider Rick Dhaliwal, the idea of Kane heading to Colorado seems to be maturing. However, that idea depends on the Canucks retaining salary on Kane to make the math work. It wouldn’t be hard for the Canucks to retain on Kane. He’ll be a UFA at the end of the season, so it wouldn’t be an outrageous idea for Vancouver to retain even 50% of Kane’s Salary.”-Quixtan
Kane has undelivered for the Canucks this season, but his supporting cast hasn’t really helped him. Kane is a complimentary player and needs play drivers on his line to get the most out of him. He finishes plays and finishes hits. But without linemates who can carry the puck he is ineffective. The Avalanche have a ton of that, and they know adding Kane would add to more scoring depth.
