A van was spotted on fire on a busy highway in Mississauga on Saturday afternoon.

The incident was captured by a passerby travelling in the westbound lanes on Highway 403 near Hurontario Street shortly before 1:40 p.m.

Images show flames tearing through the front of a white cargo van in the eastbound lanes of the highway, sending thick black smoke high into the overcast sky as it drifted across the roadway. Vehicles appear slow down and moved cautiously through adjacent lanes.

From another angle, the blaze remained active, with bright orange flames visible beneath the hood while dark plumes billowed upward. No emergency crews were visible at the time the photos were taken.

It remains unclear what may have caused the vehicle to catch fire and whether anyone was injured.
