A TTC employee has been suspended and faces criminal charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a female coworker “numerous times.”

While Toronto Police have not identified the accused man’s employer, the Toronto Transit Commission has confirmed authorities were contacted after a female employee complained about serious workplace “misconduct” allegedly by a male co-worker.

The incident allegedly occurred on TTC property.
TTC CEO Mandeep Lali sent out a letter to all employees stating “the TTC has taken swift action regarding a serious personal matter within our organization.”
“Upon learning of allegations of misconduct, the TTC acted immediately to remove an individual from the workplace and any access to it and our systems.”
A senior TTC staffer confirmed that detectives who investigate sexual assault cases were notified.
As soon as it was brought to Lali’s attention, the TTC’s new leader took immediate action and the employee was suspended.

The allegations against Shaik have not yet been proven in court.
“Our approach to workplace safety is straightforward when we are made aware of behavior that violates our core values or the law we act without hesitation,” Lali said. “We do not allow complexity to delay our responsibility to protect our employees and riders.”
Investigators have released an image of the accused out of concern for the possibility of other alleged victims.
