NBA writer offers trade update on Celtics’ $45 million sharpshooter Sam Hauser originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Boston Celtics have had a busy offseason amid a retooling effort spurred by Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles and looming financial constraints.

Boston maneuvered below the second apron by trading both Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday in June, though these moves raised questions about the rest of the roster. While it appears extremely unlikely the Celtics will part ways with top options Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, speculation continues to swirl about other rotation pieces.
However, Brian Robb of MassLive reports that forward Sam Hauser is unlikely to be moved anytime soon, despite the club facing a potential gap year.
“Boston isn’t going to move Hauser unless they get good value for him but it seems like the preference for now would be to keep him given his value and cost control for the next four years of his deal,” Robb wrote.

While the Celtics could be tempted by a deal they can’t refuse for the sharpshooter, he’s under contract through the 2028-29 season and has established himself as a valuable member of the second unit since his second year in the league.
Boston has other movable pieces in Anfernee Simons, Georges Niang and Xavier Tillman, making it unlikely that Hauser will be included in any cost-cutting maneuvers.
The 27-year-old is expected to play a major role on a retooling Celtics squad this season after another productive campaign in 2024-25. Over 71 regular-season appearances last year, Hauser averaged 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 three-pointers while shooting 41.6 percent from beyond the arc in 21.7 minutes per game.
