It’s been a tough start to the new year for restaurants in and around Vancouver, and unfortunately, we’ve lost a couple of fan favourites.
From iconic seafood restaurants to much-loved spots for hot pot, these are six Metro Vancouver restaurants that have closed or announced closures this month.
Closing soon
The Boathouse Restaurant — Port Moody
The Boathouse Restaurant is unfortunately closing another one of its locations, this time in Port Moody.
The restaurant confirmed the news to Dished over the phone, adding that its final day of operation would be April 23, 2026. The location also shared that a corporation had bought the space, but could not confirm which corporation it was.
Additionally, in a statement to Dished, COO of The Boathouse Restaurant Shah Ghani said, “The Boathouse Restaurant located in Port Moody is under contract to be sold at a date and time in the distant future. Please continue to enjoy the property now, and in the future.”

Matchstick shared the unfortunate news that it will be closing all four of its locations in the near future.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will be winding down operations at Matchstick Coffee,” the cafe wrote on Instagram on Friday morning. “Over the last few years, the landscape of our industry has shifted dramatically. Like many independent businesses, we have faced an increasingly challenging environment. After exploring every possible avenue, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors.”
The first Matchstick location to close will be its Yaletown outpost (1328 Richards St.), which will be closing on March 1. It will be followed by its Riley Park location (4807 Main St.) closing on March 15 and its original Fraser store (639 E. 15th Ave.) closing on April 1.
As for its Davie Street location, Matchstick said that it will remain open for the time being as the team finalizes plans for its closures in the near future.
“For seven years, Roadside Spicy Pot has been more than a restaurant,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram. “It has been a place for laughter, warmth, and memories. From the first light we turned on to every shared meal and late-night gathering, you’ve been part of our journey.”
Located at 6462 Kingsway #105 in Burnaby, the restaurant was best known for its all-you-can-eat hot pot and skewers deal.
“It’s not goodbye to friendships, just farewell to this beloved place,” added the restaurant.
“Thank you for having this wonderful journey with us for seven unforgettable years. Thank you for every ‘same as usual’ order. Thank you for calling this your second home.”
An exact closing date has yet to be shared.

Rice Burger
Joining the list of Vancouver restaurants that have closed is Rice Burger, which took to Instagram to share that it had closed after nine years of operation.
“It’s a sad day for Rice Burger,” wrote the restaurant. “After nine amazing years of selling the good people our delicious Rice Burge,r we are unfortunately selling and will no longer be a restaurant.”
The restaurant specialized in its namesake: rice burgers, which are handhelds that replace the traditional hamburger bun with two circles of rice.

Kokoro is known best for its mazesoba — a soupless ramen served with an assortment of different meat and veggie toppings. The restaurant also serves traditional ramen and other Japanese cuisines.
Currently, the chain has locations all across Metro Vancouver, including Surrey, Burnaby, and multiple outposts in Vancouver.
“Our restaurant has closed permanently at Kitsilano location as of today,” wrote Kokoro on Feb. 2. “Thank you sincerely for your support, love, and memories here over the years.”

BC Kitchen, the sports bar located inside the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, has shared that it has permanently closed its doors.
A representative confirmed the closure to Dished, making sure to thank staff and guests who had visited over the last 8 years of operation.
However, we also have word of what will be replacing the sports bar, and it includes a new multi-storey restaurant along with a new Starbucks at the corner of Smithe and Pacific.
“These additions join our recently launched Sportsbook Lounge, featuring a 50-foot screen, and the Johnnie Walker Lounge, designed for private and corporate events,” shared Parq Casino. “Together, these developments reflect Parq’s ongoing growth, commitment to innovation, and the creation of new jobs for our community.”
