Winnipeg has been named host city for the 2027 International Indigenous Tourism Conference, the largest event of its kind in the world.
The announcement was made Thursday at the 13th annual conference in Edmonton, where the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada revealed Winnipeg as the next host.
The three-day event next June is expected to draw national tourism leaders, First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, and international Indigenous tourism representatives, highlighting Winnipeg’s role as a hub for Indigenous tourism and reconciliation efforts.
The conference was secured through a partnership that includes Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism, Indigenous Tourism Manitoba, Travel Manitoba, the province and the City of Winnipeg.
Organizers say the 2027 gathering, themed “Heart of Turtle Island,” will celebrate the growth and resilience of Indigenous tourism across Canada. The event is projected to generate approximately $2.7 million in economic impact.
“This is an incredible opportunity to highlight the growth of the Indigenous entrepreneurs working in every part of Manitoba since our last gathering here, offering incredible experiences for visitors rooted in connection, culture and heart,” said Angela Cassie, chief operating officer at Travel Manitoba. “We are excited to welcome the world to Manitoba.”
Winnipeg previously hosted the conference in 2023. More details about the 2027 event are expected in the coming months.
